Cassy
I love being a midwife and feel immensely privileged to have been at the births of so many beautiful babies, strong mothers and wonderful families both at home and in hospital over the years. I believe in the ability of most women to grow, birth and nurture their babies and in the vital role of midwives in supporting families to achieve a positive pregnancy and birth experience. This may not be solely at a natural birth at home but also during births that really do require intervention and medical support. As a midwife I will support you no matter what or where the circumstances of your baby’s birth to make sure that your experience is all that it can be and I am passionate about supporting mothers to achieve a normal birth when or wherever possible. I work with Kelly Abbott (see below) who will provide her care as a second midwife for my clients, as I provide for hers. Families will of course get to meet us both when we share care in this way. I have three wonderful boys aged 19, 18 and 11, of my own and am married to Steve.
I have a wide range of experience in caring for mothers and families, both from my work as an NHS midwife and as a self employed midwife. I originally trained as a midwife in the South East of England and worked in Surrey, Buckinghamshire and Essex for the NHS. After a re-location back to Scotland I became self employed. Being a self employed midwife means that I am able to offer real continuity of care for women and families before, during and after pregnancy and birth.
The majority of mothers that I provide midwifery care for are planning a home/waterbirth or VBAC. I also work with mothers who have experienced previous birth trauma or those who find it difficult to trust numerous unfamiliar care providers for any number of reasons; for me this is the key to the service that I provide, developing a trusting, consistent, reliable and professional relationship with mothers and their families.
As well as being a Registered Midwife I have additional qualifications in:
Public Health and Health Promotion, Reproductive Sexual Health, Family Planning, certificates in Advanced life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) Neonatal Life Support (NLS) and Examination of the Newborn (SRENC). I am also a Supervisor of Midwives (SoM) within Ayrshire and Arran.
I am a member of The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) and The Royal College of Nursing (RCN)
Conferences and Events I have taken part in:
I was delighted to be awarded the BabyGroe Natural Choice ‘Health Professional of the Year’ award in 2008. The award was judged by the former Prime Minister’s wife, Sarah Brown and presented by BBC Radio 2’s Janey Lee Grace.
I am also co-owner of the Birthchoices website as well as the MaMa Conference Organisation

I am based in Ayrshire and work together with Cassy who will also
provide my on call support.
In Scotland it is good practice for two midwives to attend a birth and we believe that every woman should know and feel comfortable with the people she has chosen to attend the birth of her baby, therefore we ensure that every woman has the opportunity to meet both midwives.
Pregnancy and birth are powerful and life changing events. We aim to help our
clients enjoy this transition by providing a supportive, informative and individualized
service. 'bump2baby ' midwives are passionate about birth being a normal,
empowering life event rather than a medical condition.
