Course Content Guide

All of our courses are run in Glasgow and southwest Scotland. Whole day courses include refreshments and a light buffet lunch. You are also provided with learning support materials.

All of our courses contain both theoretical and practical learning; they are interactive and fun. Each individual course is directed by the needs of the group attending; however, these are some of the subject areas that we aim to cover:

Early Pregnancy-Full Day Course

Your changing body, your growing baby, healthy eating, avoidable hazards in pregnancy, pregnancy discomforts, screening tests (their advantages and disadvantages), pregnancy care options, place of birth, exercise, back care and posture, sex in pregnancy, possible complications of pregnancy, feeding your baby - breast or artificial, changing relationships and pregnancy and work.

Late Pregnancy-Full Day Course

Your body in late pregnancy, your baby's development, exploring feelings and fears around labour, birth and parenting, preparing for labour, the pelvis and its' role in labour, your birth partner's role and how they can help, fathers and their feelings about labour and birth, positions of the baby at term, coping strategies, problem solving, positions in labour, stages of labour, medical intervention and emergencies, caesarean birth, pain relief options (their advantages and disadvantages), delivering your baby, feeding your baby, the early post-natal period, newborn care in the first two weeks, family planning overview and returning to work.

Next Time Around Course - Half-day Course

Your body in late pregnancy, exploring your previous birth experience, positions for labour, coping strategies and problem solving, pain relief options (their advantages and disadvantages), stages of labour, delivering your baby, caesarean birth, feeding your baby, coping with your newborn/other children and family planning overview.

Newborn Care Course - Half-day Course

Feeding your baby (breast and artificial), bathing, skincare, reducing the risk of cot death, understanding baby's needs and signals, coping with crying babies, infant massage and first aid.

Granny Craft - Half-day

Changes over the years in pregnancy, labour and birth care, choices now, how new mothers can learn from experienced mothers, old wives' tales, baby care advice now, supporting new mother's feeding choices and first aid for infants.
