What we offer

A full range of midwifery services can be arranged to suit your needs. Each can be booked individually or as part of a package. This includes:

Pre-conception advice – a two hour private consultation to help you prepare for a healthy pregnancy, giving you and your baby the best possible start.

Birth preparation courses – for mothers, partners, birth partners. An informative, interactive and fun course usually run over a weekend. Helps you to learn more about pregnancy, childbirth and parenting. (see courses page for more details)

Ante natal care - The frequency of ante natal visits is dependent on your personal needs and at a time and place convenient to you. But we would recommend at least once every 4 weeks until 28 weeks of pregnancy, then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks of pregnancy, followed by weekly visits or more until your baby is born. It is also a chance for you and your midwife to form a close and trusting relationship and discuss any issues or questions that you have. This incorporates the normal antenatal checks such as: checking your blood pressure, urine, baby’s heart rate and growth, and blood tests if you require them. Scans can be organised at local NHS hospitals or privately (at extra cost) if you require them. We will refer you to a Dr if it becomes necessary at any stage. Advice, information and support for home birth, water birth or hospital birth. All of the information that we provide is up to date, non-biased and research based.

Throughout your care you will have a named midwife that you can contact 24/7, from booking until your baby is about 6 weeks old.

Labour and Birth. (at home) - When you go into labour your named midwife will stay with you and provide all of your care until you birth your baby. We are happy to support birth in water, hypnobirthing or other therapies/techniques that you have chosen for this special time, please discuss this at booking. We can also supply or arrange birth pools and any relevant equipment.
Independent midwives carry resuscitation equipment, oxygen and emergency drugs. All of our equipment is checked by a local supervisor of midwives annually.
Although unlikely, should you require transfer to hospital care at any time, during your pregnancy or labour, we will remain with you as an advocate and birth support.

Planned hospital birth - Some women want or need to give birth in hospital. We are happy to provide the same level of ante natal and post natal care, advocacy, information and support as described. We can ‘share’ your care with your hospital Consultant or GP as your needs dictate.

Post natal care - After the birth of your baby we will visit you every day for the first week. During this time we will support and advise you in caring for your new baby, help you to establish breastfeeding and carry out the normal post natal and newborn checks to ensure that you and your baby remain well. After the first week you and your midwife decide how often you would like to be visited, up until around 6 weeks after the birth. We can be contacted 7 days a week during this time. We are happy to provide this comprehensive support for all mothers regardless of the place or type of birth.
